Are you looking to up your game for 2021. If so, nows the time to start implimenting new healthy habits that can help you succeed in both your personal and professional lives.

I’m not talking about setting up a bucket list or short term resolutions that are easily forgotten. I’m talking about introducing the daily habits of successful women, habits and lifestyle tweaks that can help us achieve anything we want!

What does success mean to you? In order to achieve success we must first understand what it is we want to achieve! Success can mean something different to each and every one of us. For some, it’s professional, for others it’s personal.

For me, success is a more holistic entity.

Personally, I would like to eventually earn money from my blog and become location independent. Having the ability to work from my laptop from anywhere in the world is the dream. However, this doesn’t define my success, other factors come into this. I want to have a happy family life with a place to call home. I want to be able to share my life with family and friends and make wonderful memories. I also want myself and my family to remain healthy so that we can enjoy all the activities that we love to do together.

Without all this, becoming successful with my blog means nothing, after all what is success if we can’t share it with the ones we love?

Once you work out what success means to you, you then need to make changes in your life that are gonna help you succeed.

Making a conscious decision to make changes in your life can appear daunting at first. However, if you really want to succeed in life, you really do need to put in the hard work now!

These 12 habits of successful women are a sure fire way to help you succeed in life. Over the past few weeks I have started to implement a few of these habits and already feel so much more in control of my life. In the months ahead I am going to start introducing more with the hope that all these changes will make 2021 one of my best years yet.

Don’t worry about trying to introduce them all at once, you will quickly become overwhelmed if you do. In stead just pick out a couple at a time, as these become second nature, start to add more.

Is a morning person:

It’s a pretty simple concept but getting up early each day gives you more hours to get things done. Virtually every successful woman I know gets up early, preparing for the day ahead. After all, the old saying goes ‘the early bird catches the worm’

I used to be someone who hated getting up early and would press snooze countless times before I eventually got up! I was then rushing around getting ready before getting into work just about on time! This generally meant I ended up stressed out by noon, feeling rundown, demotivated and uninspired.

Does this sound like you? If so, It’s time for a change!

I started looking at changing my morning routine and now I get up much earlier. This ensures I have the time to get ready properly, have breakfast and even fit in a little exercise. This helps me focus my mind and feel fully prepared for the day!

I have been doing this for about a month now and I feel a lot more focused and ready to take on any challenges the day may bring.

If you only take on board one of these habits, then this is the one to start with. As you feel more focused you will naturally want to incorporate many of the other habits listed below.

Have a positive mindset:

Having a positive mindset is essential for achieving success. After all, how can you achieve anything if you don’t believe you can!

A negative mindset can smoother us before we can even try to achieve our dreams. Negative thoughts like, I’m not capable, I’m not intelligent enough or I’m not ready, will destroy anything productive or beneficial before it can even ignite. Stopping us in our tracks before we even start! These negative thoughts can also have a massive impact on our confidence and self esteem, ultimately reducing our ability to progress both personally and professionally.

By changing your mindset and incorporating positive affirmations into your daily life, you can greatly improve your self confidence and self worth. Using positive affirmations can also motivate you to act and concentrate on your goals, as well as influencing your subconscious mind to access new beliefs.

Staying positive even when times are tough is also important. Whatever plans or goals you have, it can be easy to get discouraged when you come across setbacks or failures.

However, positive thinking means you will see these setbacks or failures as learning opportunities. This makes it easier to overcome any problems or issues and help you focus on reaching your goals. By sticking with a positive mindset you are also likely to attract more support, resulting in more opportunities along the way.

Sets S.M.A.R.T goals:

SMART Goals

Setting goals is an essential aspect of becoming successful and provides direction, motivation and a focus. By setting goals we are creating a target on what to aim for.

One the best habits of successful women is not just setting goals but setting SMART goals. SMART is an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely. Therefore a SMART goal is something that incorporates all of these criteria helping you to focus on achieving these goals and becoming successful.

When setting goals think about the following:

Specific – Goals should be specific, well defined, clear, and unambiguous

Measurable – Goals should be measurable againt a given set of criteria.

Achievable – Goals should be attainable and not impossible to achieve.

Realistic – Goals should be realistic and within your reach.

Timely – Goals should have a clearly defined timeline with a start and end date.

Write lists:

Do you find that you have so much to do that you always find yourself forgetting that important task, missing an appointment or forgetting a friends birthday!

Keeping track of all the crucial elements in your life can be a chore in its self, however it’s essential in achieving your goals. This is where list making comes in handy!

This might be a simple concept but for for many people, its the one thing that they forget to do. To be honest I’m no stranger to making lists, I literally make a list for everything and have done so for most of my life.

By making a list of our daily or monthly tasks, we have little reminders giving us a clear insight to what has to be done. For most of us, a daily to do list may be enough. However for those who want to achieve our goals and become successful then some of the following lists may be beneficial.

List of goals – Goals and ambition is what drives and motivates us. By listing our goals we can then focus on achieving them. Without such a list we are in danger of loosing direction and failing our dreams.

List of tasks – Tasks are the things we need to do each day to reach our goals. For those tasks that cannot be completed in one day, we need to break them down into smaller achievable tasks. This way as we achieve each task we will feel a sense of achievement and feel closer to fulfilling our main goal.

List of contacts – Have all important contacts, both personal and professional in one handy place. After all, we never know what the day may throw at us! By having all our contacts in one place we can easily speak to those who may be able to help us out quickly without any delay.

They have a back up plan:

Even with all the best intentions, plans can sometimes go amiss. By having a back up plan you can reduce the negative feelings associated when things go wrong. Having a Plan B can also help you to learn and move past such events, ensuring the show can go on so to speak.

When creating a back up plan, focus on the end goal!

As and when smaller tasks go wrong, it’s important to remember the bigger picture. These smaller goals are important to achieving the end goal but try and remember, there are usually more than one way to get somewhere. We need to learn to divert and go down another path even if it takes longer. Eventually with patience and hard work we will achieve our dreams.

Have good support networks:

Social self care

A support network is all those people you can trust and relay on in times of need. Our most important support networks are usually close friends or family.

Throughout your life you will face numerous challenges both big and small. This is especially true when trying to reach difficult goals. This is when your support networks can really make the difference between success or failure.

When obstacles inevitably arise, we sometimes need a little help and support. When you are feeling overwhelmed or even feel the need to have a good old rant, your closest friends or family will always be there to lend a supportive ear. This support network can also provide a new perspective and offer other avenues that you had not previously thought of. This helps you stay focused and motivated ensuring you continue to to work towards your goals.

On the flip side you friends and family will usually be the first people you contact when things are going well and also the ones who you will celebrate achievements with.

Without a good support network, working in isolation can really become difficult. Generally the bigger the goals the more critical it is to have a good support network behind you.

They take risks:

You don’t become successful by staying on the safe route. You need to learn to take risks every now and again. Learning to take risks also prevents the ‘what if‘ scenario later on. After all, if you fail, you are still likely to learn from that experience and gain more knowledge helping you to succeed in the future.

However, successful women don’t take risks willy nilly. They evaluate, examining each of the different options. It’s not about taking all the risks it’s about taking the right ones.

Many of us see failure as a negative, however failure can be a great tool in character building. It makes us stronger and more resilient developing persistence in the face of difficulty. In fact learning how to fail can ultimately help you to succeed.

Prioritise tasks:

A successful women knows how to prioritise her own workload, tasks and needs. After all, we all know what happens when we are spinning too many plates. Inevitably they are all going to come crashing down at some point.

In order to prioritise and focus we need to understand what all our tasks actually are. One mistake people make when trying to prioritise there workload is to concentrate on all the smaller less important tasks first. They do this in the hope that completing these they will then make time for the more important heavy going tasks. However this is usually not the case and often leaves not enough time to complete the big tasks.

Instead concentrate on the important tasks first even if its likely to take up the most time. This way you will still usually find the time to complete all the smaller tasks. If some days these smaller no urgent tasks are not completed its not a big thing and they can usually be completed another day.

Don’t compare themselves to others:

Another habit of successful women is that they don’t compare themselves to other people. They are completely focused on themselves and their own achievements. You can often find them actually helping other people and being supportive peers.

This is one area of my life that I really need to look at. I do enjoy supporting others however, I have a terrible habit of comparing myself to other people, both in my personal and professional life. I really try not to, but it’s such a hard habit to break especially when you are surrounded by so many successful people.

It’s only natural to compare yourself to others, most of us use some sort of social media. Unfortunately this means we are constantly aware of other peoples success, the amount of likes, followers and other interactions they receive. Unless we live an isolated life it’s pretty hard to avoid it.

So how do we stop comparing ourselves to others? Firstly, we need to be aware of when we are doing this. Once you realise this, take a pause and gently change the focus. A better focus is to look at your own strengths, what do you have rather than what you don’t. Secondly, be happy with imperfection, its ok to be a work in progress, after all, no one is perfect! Thirdly, focus on your journey and what you have already achieved.

Never stops learning:

You can’t be successful without constantly learning! Every successful woman makes time to learn. Whether it’s the latest professional developments, further education or just improving your IT skills, there is always something more to learn. After all knowledge is power!

Successful women are hungry for knowledge, its unparalleled, it’s why they are always on top of there game. Arming yourself with as much knowledge as possible will not only make you feel more confident in what you are doing it will also give you the skills to excel. It will open your mind and and make you more welcoming of unconventional ideas.

Reading and seeking new knowledge will also improve your conversational skills, making you stand out in discussions and improving your professional status.

Look after themselves:

Successful women know the important of not only looking after their business but also themselves. By looking after yourself mentally and physically you are setting good foundations to build an empire.

When setting up a new venture or business it can quickly become very stressful. If not kept in check, you can easily become rundown and suceptable to minor illness and bugs. If this happens regularly you are likely to struggle reaching your goals and possibly give up.

Make sure to eat well and take regular exercise as well as keeping on top of stress. Sleep is also an important element in maintaining a healthy wellbeing. This doesn’t mean that you can’t go out enjoying yourself, it’s about doing everything in moderation. Yes, treat yourself to a blow out every now and again but the rest of your time focus on staying healthy and sticking to your goals.

If you do find yourself getting stressed then take some time out to focus on yourself and do some of your favourite self care activities. If you find that stress and anxiety are getting the better of you, then do something about it before it starts to affect your health and ability to focus. After all it’s much easier to nip it in the bud before it grows into something you can no longer control.

Is financially savvy:

Successful women are generally very good with money. They work hard to achieve their success and don’t want to waste any hard earned cash down the drain.

Knowing and understanding your financial situation is an essential habit for achieving success. However, financial stability should be a priority to everyone not just for women who want to be successful.

Having financial worries is one of the major causes of stress and anxiety. If you are in this situation it isn’t a great starting point in creating the life of your dreams. However, it could be a good wakeup call to get your life back on track.

Once you have a realistic budget you can then plan for the future with savings and investments. Once you have all this in place and have a comfortable budget that you can easily stick to. You can then concentrate on achieving your goals and hopefully making even more money.

It takes a lot of hard work, patience and focus to become successful. However, if you incorporate some or all of the above habits of successful women you can form a solid base in which you can grow and achieve your goals.
